He joined the Sri Lanka Army in 1974 as an Officer Cadet with the Direct Enlisted Intake and received his basic military training from the Army Training Centre, Diyatalawa. After successfully completing the training, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant to the Corps of Signals. He served the regiment in numerous command, staff and instructional appointments in his tenure of service including the Director Plans, Director Staff Duties and also as the Military Secretary at Army Headquarters. He is an alumnus of both University of Peradeniya and Osmania University, India. He got retired from the active service on 2003, and He was appointed twice as the coordinator of both the MSc section and subsequently in the Staff Development and Carrier Advancement Division from 2003 to 2008.Ultimately he got passed away on 1^st of January 2017 after a long illness.
