Major General Rukmal Dias is an Artillery Regiment officer who joined the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet in 1984. He has held various appointments in his capacity including the Commander Security Force Central and the Commander Volunteer Force. Further, he is an alumnus of Army command and Staff College, School of Artillery, Pakistan and National Defence College, Bangladesh. He was appointed as the Director, Institute of Post Graduate Studies during the years 2009-2011, which subsequently evolved as the FGS over the period of time. He has served as the Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies from 15th December 2009 to 15^th September 2011.  Major General Dias retired on 25^th April 2019 from active service upon reaching 55 years of age.
