LCdr (C) Akila Jayasekera enlisted to the Sri Lanka Navy as an officer cadet to the Intake XXIV KDU in 2006 and underwent his basic training at Kothalawala Defence University and Naval and Maritime Academy. He specialized in Communication at INS Vendurthy, India in 2018.
He has completed Junior Naval Staff Course at Junior Naval Staff College, Naval and Maritime Academy in 2019, Defence Services Command and Staff Course at Defence Services Command and Staff College Sri Lanka in 2023 and several local and foreign professional courses during his career.
He has served Command, Instructional and Staff appointments in various capacities and few such appointments are Officer in Command P 464 and P 401 Fast Attack Craft, Executive Officer of SLNS Weeraya and SLNS Abeetha II Fast Gun Boats, Instructor Officer to Officer Training Wing at Naval and Maritime Academy, Staff Officer Operation and Staff Officer Training for Department of Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Assistant Director Academic Studies of Naval and Maritime Academy and Flag Lieutenant to an Admiral.
He obtained Masters of Defence and Strategic Studies (MSc D&SS), Master of Business Administration in E Governance (MBA E-Gov), Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management (PGD in DM) and Bachelor of Science (Defence and Strategic Studies) in management & Technical Science (BSc (DS) MTS) from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Sri Lanka.
