Prospective Students

Meet Our Alumni

The Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) played a crucial role in my PhD journey, particularly through its robust support in research assessment, which significantly enhanced my understanding and approach. The program fostered an intellectually stimulating and supportive environment that greatly contributed to my academic and personal development. The evaluation processes provided diverse perspectives, enabling a profound exploration of my research. The FGS has been diligently advancing and upgrading its administrative and procedural capabilities, reflecting a commitment to continuous improvement. I confidently recommend future students to consider the FGS for their PhD studies, as these ongoing enhancements will undoubtedly enrich their academic experience. Overall, the support provided was profoundly beneficial, and the insights gained will continue to positively influence my work and research.

Dr. (Maj) RMM Pradeep

My stay at Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU)  was marked by both pleasant experiences and significant challenges. As the first registered and graduated student under the Windows II category of the PhD programme at the Faculty of Graduate Studies, I made a notable contribution to the university's research culture.

Joining KDU in 2014 under a research project funded by the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka, I, witnessed the institution's early stages of developing its research capabilities. Working closely with my supervisor, I played a pivotal role in establishing a robust research environment within the university.

Studying at a defense university has been a uniquely enriching experience. With the guidance of my supervisors and the support of my peers, I successfully adapted to the university environment and completed my Ph.D. in Biomedical Science within four years.

During my study period (2014-2017), laboratory facilities were progressively upgraded, and I received the necessary resources to support my research endeavors. My work allowed me to collaborate with renowned scientists worldwide, leading to the achievement of two national patents, several national awards and multiple publications in high impact indexed journals.

The three years spent at KDU provided me with invaluable experience and exposure, which have been instrumental in my current role as a Research Manager at the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka.
